Home Safe Home: Creating a Dementia-Friendly Environment

One of the many difficulties that arise with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia is addressing safety needs. Caregivers need to know how best to adapt the environment, whether at home or in a residential care setting.
In this workshop, you will learn about the changes in the body and brain brought on by Alzheimer’s disease and identify ways in which the environment can affect people with dementia. The presenter will share ideas for practical home enhancements that will help caregivers support their aging loved ones. Attendees will be able to identify potential hazards and safety concerns in the home while opportunities for independence. Creating a supportive environment in a long-term care setting also be discussed.
